I've always used pastels as a quick, intuitive medium to remember and understand the places I've been. It began with a carnet de voyage I intended to use only during one trip back in the time—but the act of drawing naturally evolved into a daily rhythm, a ritual. I draw almost every day. Sometimes it's just a quick sketch—a silhouette, a shadow, a line. I know I’ll remember it better if I draw it. For me, drawing is like taking a photo. Often, I even photograph the sketch in its context, creating a kind of double memory.
